Founded in 1851, Carson-Newman is ranked in the top four of Tennessee’s education institutions, Carson-Newman continues to receive national accolades as a liberal arts school founded on Christian principles.
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology serves as the premier supplier of workforce development throughout the State of Tennessee. Providing competency-based training through superior quality, traditional, and distance learning instruction methods that qualify completers for employment and job advancement. Jefferson County works closely with TCAT in Morristown, while supporting nearby Knoxville campuses.
Founded in 1794, UT is big on tradition and proud of humble beginnings as the first public university chartered west of the Appalachian Divide. The University of Tennessee is a public research institution and embody’s excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, creative activity, outreach, and engagement.
Walters State is a learning centered, comprehensive community college established in 1970 to provide affordable and quality higher education opportunities for the residents of East Tennessee.

The second largest employer in Jefferson County is its very own school district. Serving over 7500 students with a student-teacher ratio of 16 to 1.
